LEXINGTON, Ohio, 15 September – Completing a day of pre-race testing at the Mid-Ohio Sports Course, Rum Bum Racing affirmed they are on target for a front-running performance when the final round of the 2011 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge finale gets underway in earnest tomorrow, September 16. Following three separate test sessions, where the No. 13 BMW M3 finished among the three fastest in the second session, drivers Matt Plumb and Nick Longhi shared the workload experimenting with a variety of set-up combinations.

Despite the nearly two month layoff since the last round in New Jersey, neither driver found it difficult to get back in the saddle.

“Both Nick and I have plenty of laps around here at Mid-Ohio, so it’s not like we need to shake off any cobwebs,” said Plumb. “We tried a variety of set ups today just to see what’s working and what’s not,” Plumb continued. “A big difference today from when we were here last year in June is the temperature. Back then, the temperature was in the 80’s whereas today we barely got above 60 (degrees Fahrenheit). So we are experiencing some different reactions from the car, but that’s why these test sessions are so key. We can test a variety of set ups without fear of failure and we accumulate data that will help us enormously when it counts tomorrow. That being said, so have all the other teams, so we’ll find out tomorrow who was able to make the best use of their data.”

The team also carried out numerous tire change practice stops giving new crew member, Joe Hall, some time to integrate into the team’s well-oiled pit stop mechanism.

Competition officially gets underway for the EMCO Gears Classic presented by Key Bank on Friday, September 16, with two practice sessions at 8:45 AM and 1:30 PM eastern respectively.

Qualifying for Saturday’s 2.5 hour race is set for 3:45 PM eastern. Follow all the action on live timing and scoring at grand-am.com.
