Watkins Glen, N.Y. (12 August 2011) – Burt Frisselle qualified the No. 61 GAMMA88 BMW-Riley seventh on the Canadian Tire 200 grid with a time of 1:07.169 seconds at the Watkins Glen International short-course event.
Frisselle returns to AIM Autosport for the 10th round of 2011 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series competition and will take the green flag for the two-hour sprint event from the fourth row before relinquishing the No. 61 GAMMA88 machine to co-driver Mark Wilkins for the second half of the race.
The Colorado racer topped the speed charts in the third practice session of the day and had hoped to carry that momentum into the quick 15-minute qualifying session, but changing track conditions saw Frisselle looking for more.
“I think we probably timed going out a little too soon with the NASCAR rubber and we actually went slower than our practice time which is not normal at all for qualifying,” said Frisselle of the run. “We probably had a little more in it, but we have some work to do. We need to gain a chunk and if we can accomplish that hopefully we’ll be able to put up a good fight with the guys up front. AIM is always so good here at the Glen, and I know they are going to come up with something good for us in the race.”
The Canadian Tire 200 begins Saturday, August 13 at 6:00 PM (ET) with SPEED broadcasting live coverage of the event. The two-hour race is set to go green at 6:00 PM (ET) on Saturday with SPEED carrying live race coverage.
