Watkins Glen, N.Y. (12 August 2011) – Brian Frisselle will start the Canadian Tire 200 from the third row of the grid after posting a quick lap time of 1:06.907 seconds around the 2.45-mile Watkins Glen International short-course in the 10th round of the 2011 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series season. Having led the day’s second practice session, Frisselle had been hopeful for a sixth consecutive top-five starting spot at the Glen’s short-course event, but battled unexpected handling issues during the 15-minute qualifying session.
Having opening the first segments of the session by sharing the provisional front row with his brother by holding on to the two top spots, he was also frustrated to encounter some precious pace-stealing traffic on his fastest lap of the session, costing him dearly.
Frisselle will open the two-hour sprint event from sixth place before handing the No. 77 Office Depot Ford-Dallara over to Doran Racing co-driver Henri Richard.
“We were fighting understeer earlier and either the track changed significantly or we overstepped our changes,” said Frisselle. “It’s too bad because we thought we were going to do better than that in qualifying but we’ll see what we have in the race.”
Frisselle will look to make a move forward once the green flag waves as he returns to the familiar twists and turns of the historic Watkins Glen road course that took him to victory lane in 2008.
The Canadian Tire 200 is set to go green Saturday, August 13 at 6:00 PM (ET) with SPEED carrying live race coverage.
