Rum Bum Racing Set for Sixth on NJMP Grid

Millville, N.J. (23 July 2011) – Rum Bum Racing continued to show strong pace at New Jersey Motorsports Park in the penultimate round of GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge competition. Saturday’s 2.5-hour B+ Foundation Heroes 200 will see Nick Longhi start from sixth on the grid after setting a fast lap time of 1:30.728 in the No. 13 Rum Bum Racing BMW M3 in qualifying on Saturday morning.

Rum Bum Racing started fourth and finished second in the 2010 event at NJMP. The Longhi-Matt Plumb combination have led 135 laps so far this year, and will look to lead even more on Saturday as they pursue a third consecutive podium.

“I wasn’t 100% happy with my fastest lap, but it is still a solid place on the grid and it gives us a good base to start the race from,” said Longhi. “Going through the data after the session, I think we could have been third on the grid but we had a small hold up on the back stretch on my fastest lap. So, we were hoping for a little bit more (in qualifying), but the car is very good and that’s the biggest thing. The heat is going to be an issue for everyone. Hopefully we get a clean start and can just use our heads in our approach and come out of here with a big result.”

The event will see Longhi’s co-driver Matt Plumb take over the controls to power the car to the finish. Adding even more motivation for Plumb is the fact that his mother, Donnan Jones, will be waving the checkered flag. Jones is a cancer survivor and made a generous donation to the B+ Foundation and was awarded the honor as a token of thanks and recognition.

The B+ Foundation Heroes 200 green flag is slated for a 2:45 PM (ET) start.

SPEED will show the 2.5-hour race at 3:00 PM (ET) on July 30. Additionally, some eligible viewers can see the event LIVE on www.speed2.com.
