ELKART LAKE, Wis., 24 June – Driver Nick Longhi scorched 4 miles of some of the finest racetrack in the United States – Road America – to qualify the No.13 Rum Bum Racing BMW M3 on the pole for this afternoon’s GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Road America 250. Longhi stood atop the time sheets for the whole of the 15-minute session with a time of 2:24.547 sec. to secure the team’s third pole of the season as they gun for their third win of the year.
“It was a pretty clean lap and I’m happy to do well. Recently we’ve had some not go well that were beyond our control and that makes life really hard on everyone, particularly the crew. So, to be in a position to lay down a very clean lap is a relief,” said Longhi. “The car is consistent on race set-up and not really set up at all for qualifying, which helps the confidence level going into the race later today.”
Longhi’s co-driver Matt Plumb, who will drive the car to the checkered flag was more immodest in his assessment of qualifying.
“Nick laid down a spectacular lap. We knew the car was good going into qualifying, but we didn’t know how good it would be. We’ve been in the top 5 consistently throughout the tests and practice, but to pull off the pole was pretty special,” said Plumb. “It’s going to be a bit tighter during the race because there is a huge draft around here, so Nick will have his work cut out for him to stay in front. But, he’ll do a great job, and then it’s up to me to stay out front and bring it home.”
The green flag will fly on the Road America 250 field today at 6:15 PM CDT. Follow it live at grand-am.com.
