Watkins Glen, N.Y. (31 May 2011) – Rum Bum Racing had much to celebrate following the Memorial Day Classic when Matt Plumb and Nick Longhi drove to victory at Lime Rock Park just two weeks after the No. 13 BMW M3 had sustained heavy damage at VIR. The Rum Bum team put forth a tremendous effort to repair the car in time for the Memorial Day event and celebrated those hours of hard work in victory lane on Saturday.
While the entire Rum Bum group was elated with the result, the team only got to bask in the glow of victory for a short time before quickly turning to focus on preparing for the next one with the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge staging back-to-back race weekends and a trip to the historic Watkins Glen International road course this weekend.
As Plumb and Longhi enter the sixth round of the 10-race championship, the duo carries race-winning momentum into the second half of the season following their impressive rebound at Lime Rock.
“I can’t say enough about this team,” said Longhi. “They gave us an incredible car following the crash at VIR and the No. 13 was just perfect. It’s a quick turnaround for the next one and I expect another strong showing for us at The Glen.”
Rum Bum Racing faced disappointment in last year’s Continental Tire 150 race with a 24th place finish after a run to the podium was eliminated when a broken sway bar forced the No. 13 to pit lane for an unscheduled late-race pit stop.
“It was a frustrating race last year, but we had a great car and could have been on the podium for sure,” said Plumb. “We know what it takes to be quick at The Glen. Nick knows this place so well and we’ll count on his speed once again in qualifying. We’ll keep doing what we’re doing, and hopefully we can bring Luis Barcardi back-to-back wins this weekend and keep getting some points in the bank.”
Rum Bum Racing picked up valuable championship points with the victory at Lime Rock and returns to Watkins Glen second in the team standings – 31 points out of the top spot as the championship battle heats up.
Official practice and qualifying is set for Thursday and the Continental Tire 150 green flag will wave on Friday at 6:00 PM local time.
SPEED will broadcast the 2.5-hour event on June 12 at 5:00 PM (ET).
