Matt Bell Set For Daytona Prototype Return at Watkins Glen

Lakeville, Conn. (1 June 2011) – After backing up an outstanding debut run in the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series Daytona Prototypes with a pair of strong encore performances, Matt Bell has once again got the call-up to the bigs as Doran Racing has signed the young Californian to join the team’s Daytona Prototype campaign in the Sahlen’s Six Hours at Watkins Glen this weekend.

The return to GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series action will mark Bell’s fourth career Daytona Prototype start, having scored the prestigious Trueman Award honor in his debut run at New Jersey Motorsports Park last year. Bell, who has earned a reputation as an ace in qualifying and a canny racer once the green flag flies, followed that strong NJMP debut up with stout performances for Doran Racing in the 2010 season-ending race at Miller Motorsports Park and once again in the 2011 Rolex 24 At Daytona.

Bell will team in the No. 77 Office Depot Ford-Dallara with Doran Racing’s full-season pilots Henri Richard and Brian Frisselle.

“I’m really excited about the chance to get back into a Daytona Prototype at Watkins Glen, and to get to do that in an event like the 6 Hour is awesome,” said Bell, who will also be busy with his racing duties for Stevenson Motorsports in the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge event on Friday as well. “I have a lot of experience at the Glen so it will just be a matter of getting comfortable as quickly as I can. With the experience of running high downforce in New Jersey and much lower downforce at Daytona, I’m looking forward to seeing how the DP performs at the Glen with the variety of high and low speed corners."

Entering the race weekend, the organization already has three wins in the prestigious event to its credit, and the as the trio look to add a new chapter of success that Doran Racing has at the upstate New York facility.

“What Matt did this weekend was nothing short of phenomenal,” said Doran when Bell made his debut. “To jump in like he did, not having driven anything faster than a GT car before, and be right on the pace like he was was just amazing. If he wants to keep doing this, I think he has a long future ahead of him. We were really impressed.”
