QUICKEN LOANS GRAND PRIX STREET FEST POWERED BY CHEVROLET
PROVIDES A FREE TASTE OF GRAND PRIX ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 27DETROIT, Mich. (May 26, 2015) – Fans will get a free taste of this weekend’s Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix in downtown Detroit Wednesday at the Quicken Loans Grand Prix Street Fest powered by Chevrolet.
Most of the major elements of the Grand Prix will be featured at Campus Martius Park as the Street Fest officially waves the green flag on race week activities downtown. Fans of all ages are welcome to join the festivities free of charge from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday evening, just two days before world-class racing returns to the Motor City at Belle Isle Park.
The Quicken Loans Grand Prix Street Fest powered by Chevrolet will let fans experience the party atmosphere before official activities get underway at the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, May 29 to 31. Drivers that will be competing on Belle Isle this weekend will meet with fans and sign autographs, and actual race cars will be on display. Live music will be featured throughout the evening along with great food, technical demonstrations and discussions with some of the race teams competing at the Grand Prix.
“The Quicken Loans Street Fest powered by Chevrolet is a great event to rev everyone’s engines for this weekend’s Grand Prix,” said Bud Denker, Event Chairman of the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix. “We will have virtually all of the elements of the Grand Prix downtown at Campus Martius Park from race cars, to drivers, to demonstrations and fun activities for the family. It will be a great evening to offer a free sneak preview of what’s in store at the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix this weekend.”
Verizon IndyCar Series drivers, including 2014 series champion Will Power and teammate Simon Pagenaud from Team Penske will enjoy all of the festivities at Campus Martius Park, along with a driver who just secured his first win in the series – American rising star Josef Newgarden. TUDOR United SportsCar Championship driver, Eric Curran, will also meet and sign autographs with fans at the festival. For the second consecutive year, the popular driver and runner up on “The Bachelorette,” Arie Luyendyk Jr. of the SPEED Energy Formula Off-Road presented by TRAXXAS series will also meet with fans at the Street Fest and capture the crowd’s attention with a loud, live running demonstration in the Quicken Loans truck. Luyendyk will once again race in Quicken Loans colors this weekend in the three truck series races and after finishing third, fourth and second at the Grand Prix last year, he’ll be looking to start a winning weekend atop the podium in 2015 with his appearance at Street Fest.
In addition to the thrilling demonstration by Luyendyk in the Quicken Loans truck, the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix Indy Car will also be on display alongside the No. 90 Visit Florida Corvette Daytona Prototype (DP) and the Visit Florida team will host a “tech talk” near the vehicle. The Infatuations, a Detroit-favorite, will also perform live on stage during the evening. Quicken Loans President and Chief Marketing Officer Jay Farner and Chevrolet’s Jim Campbell will also be in attendance during the festival, along with Bud Denker who will be addressing the crowd.
“Slow Roll,” the local group bicycle ride that meets and rides weekly in Detroit, will also be present at Campus Martius and after experiencing the Street Fest activities a group of over 1,500 riders will cycle to Belle Isle.
