Wampum, PA (3 May 2012) – Walldinger Racing driver Kyle Kirkwood will be back in race action this weekend as the WKA Manufacturer’s Cup Series heads to Pittsburgh International Race Complex in Wampum, Pennsylvania for the CRG America Nationals.
Kirkwood, the recipient of the Shell-sponsored AJ Allmendinger Karting Scholarship, will look to follow-up his stellar WKA Manufacturer’s Cup debut performance at Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, South Carolina. Driving the No. 29 Arrow, he claimed victory in the Komet Jr. Heavy division and finished runner-up in the Yamaha Jr. Heavy class.
He also picked up top-10 finishes in Yamaha Jr. Lite and Komet Jr. Lite. Kirkwood will look to add to his winning-ways with a few more trips to the podium at the .82-mile, 17 turn Pennsylvania kart track.
In addition to his karting endeavors, Kirkwood traveled to Richmond International Raceway last weekend as he joined Allmendinger for an exciting announcement that Shell-Pennzoil, the primary sponsor of Allmendinger’s No. 22 Penske Racing Dodge, has also become a primary partner in the Allmendinger scholarship. Kirkwood was thrust on to the big stage as he met the press alongside Allmendinger during the NASCAR weekend. But he handled the spotlight with aplomb and is now looking forward to making some new headlines of his own this weekend.
In addition to his media exposure, Kirkwood spent time getting an up close view of the weekend’s NASCAR activities as a guest of Allmendinger.
The 13-year-old karter will remain busy this weekend as he again contests four classes throughout the weekend: Komet Jr. Heavy, Yamaha Jr. Lite, Komet Jr. Lite, and Yamaha Jr. Heavy.
“I’m excited to be back at the kart track this weekend,” said Kirkwood. “I’ve raced at Pittsburgh International Race Complex before so I’m already familiar with the track and I can’t wait to get going. These classes are very competitive but working with Tim Pappas and KartSport has been great and hopefully we will have a strong kart this weekend.”
The event kicks off with official practice on Friday from 9:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Kirkwood will race Komet Jr. Heavy and Yamaha Jr. Lite on Saturday followed by Komet Jr. Lite and Yamaha Jr. Heavy on Sunday.
Each race day will see a format of morning practice followed by qualifying, a Pre-Final and Final.
