Stopping at Go Canada Go Rally on Way to Race
Woodbridge, Ont. (August 9, 2011) — After missing two races since their outing at Road America in June, AIM Autosport’s Daytona Prototype team is excited to be racing at this weekend’s Watkins Glen 200 at Watkins Glen International in New York. Thanks to continued sponsorship from GAMMA88, the team will be entering at least two more races this season, Watkins Glen on Saturday and Montréal one week later.
Despite competing in only about half of this year’s races, AIM has managed to field a competitively quick car, but two fourth-place finishes amid several disappointing finishes has left the team short on points. Returning to Watkins Glen, a great track that’s fairly close to home and where AIM has won in the past, has the team in an enthusiastic state. The AIM Autosport BMW-Riley sponsored by GAMMA88 is undergoing final preparation before being shipped out on Wednesday.
On the way to Watkins Glen, the car will be displayed at the Go Canada Go Rally being hosted by Team CMS at 3 West Sports Bar & Grill in Fort Erie from 4–8pm on August 10. Driver Mark Wilkins will be on hand to chat with fans and sign autographs.
“I am very excited to be back in the AIM autosport GAMMA88 car,” said driver, Burt Frisselle. “It’s wonderful to return to action at a ‘The Glen’ where AIM has a history of success! Mark and I have been training hard and we’re focused on getting the best result we can. We know it will be a challenge, but history has proven that Ian and the crew will give us a car to fight at the front.”
“I’m excited to be getting back behind the wheel of the GAMMA88 machine,” said Burt’s co-driver Mark Wilkins. “It was a long July without racing and now we have two in a row! We have been successful at both Watkins Glen and Montreal in the past and I’m confident we will do well.”
“Watkins Glen is physically the closest track to our Woodbridge, Ontario, shop, so we have two ‘home’ races—The Glen and Montreal—back to back,” said Chief Engineer Ian Willis. “I am looking forward to having AIM back at the track with the continued support of our primary sponsor GAMMA88.”
The Watkins Glen 200, round ten in the 2011 GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series presented by Crown Royal Cask No. 16, gets underway on Friday with practice and qualifying sessions. The two-hour race is scheduled to begin at 6pm ET with live coverage on SPEED and MRN.
