Millville, NJ ( 23 July, 2011)– Adam Burrows and Trevor Hopwood combined to take an eighth place finish in Saturday’s B+ Foundation Heroes 200 with the No. 12 Infinity Audio Kia Forte Koup in round nine of the GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge championship. Burrows opened the race from ninth on the grid and by the 15th trip around the 2.25-mile circuit, had worked his way up to sixth in the order.
He then turned the car over to Hopwood, who in turn kept the forward momentum going by pushing up to second place in the 2.5 hour event. A final pit stop saw a change from the traditional strategy with one last driver change as Burrows returned to the controls and rejoined the race in 22nd. Despite the heat, he made constant forward progress to score eighth at the finish.
“We went with a different pit strategy to try to have the freshest tires we could at the end, and the freshest driver,” said Burrows. “It was a different approach, but we wanted to make sure we were going to be strong late in the race despite the heat. It also gave the team more options in terms of pit windows for the No. 10 car. The heat was pretty intense, but fortunately I think this strategy helped Trev and I both get the most out of the car today and hopefully we can have a strong finish to the year at Mid-Ohio.”
“This race was much easier than last year!” joked Hopwood, who had to muscle to the finish without power steering in the 2010 running at NJMP. “The car was good, and it was great to once again have the Kia fighting at the front end of the field. We lost some track position on the final stop but Adam did a great job to keep moving up all the way to the end. It was a shame that the ten car’s day went south right at the end, hopefully they can finish the job at Mid-Ohio.”
The final race of the 2011 campaign will be held September 16-17 at Mid-Ohio. In the meantime, please take a moment to visit http://bepositive.org/ to see how you can help.
