Another Winning Weekend for Riley Technologies
1-2 in Daytona Prototypes as Riley Camaro wins Continental Tire Challenge race
Elkhart Lake, Wis (27 June 2011)—Riley Technologies doubled up on race victories at Road America this weekend as GRAND-AM returned to the Wisconsin facility for the first time in 10 years. The champagne first flowed on Friday, as the Riley-built Camaro GS.R machine took its first-ever win in the category when the No. 9 Stevenson Auto Group Riley-built Camaro won the Road America 200 on Friday.
Saturday’s Rolex Sports Car Series race saw Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas, who opened the year with three consecutive race victories, return to the top step of the podium with a win in the Road America 250 powered by VISITFLORIDA.com. Sharing the No. 01 TELMEX BMW-Riley fielded by Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, the duo crossed the line 11 seconds ahead of the No. 99 GAINSCO/Bob Stallings Racing Chevrolet-Riley of Alex Gurney and Jon Fogarty.
The GT Class podium celebrations also had a Riley design on hand as the No. 42 Team Sahlen entry of John Edwards and Wayne Nonnamaker finished second with the SpeedSource Engineering-built Mazda RX-8 that utilizes the Riley GT Class chassis. The weekend was a big one for the Sahlen’s-sponsored group as the team scored a debut Rolex Series pole position in Friday’s qualifying session ahead of the run to the podium on Saturday.
“Road America is a great addition to the GRAND-AM schedule, and to get to enjoy the kind of success that our customers had this weekend makes it an even more memorable event,” said Riley Technologies Vice-President Bill Riley. “Congratulations to the Stevenson Motorsports guys on winning with the Camaro on Friday, and of course to Scott and Memo for such a dominating win on Saturday. They certainly had this place figured out. It was great to see the Sahlen’s guys have such a strong weekend as well, and hopefully they can continue to show that kind of form in the second half of the year.”
Riley Technologies currently holds a 34 point advantage in the GRAND-AM Manufacturer Championship standings with five rounds of racing to go as the group pursues an eighth consecutive championship in the category.
