Tim Bell Adds Watkins Glen to Growing Race Resume

Tim Bell Adds Watkins Glen to Race Resume

Watkins Glen, N.Y. (3 June 2011) – Tim Bell posted another strong performance behind the wheel of the No. 14 Office Depot BMW 128i on Friday in his sixth GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge start. Starting from the 17th position, Bell had his work cut out for him as the rookie racer took the green flag for the Continental Tire 150 at Watkins Glen International.

As he began the 2.5-hour race, he made quick work of moving forward to grab an impressive seven spots and run 10th by the end of the first lap. Unfortunately, that effort would not be rewarded as the No. 14 BMW suffered a mechanical setback during the final stint of the race which ended the Doran Racing team’s day early.

Bell put down some quick laps throughout his one hour stint despite suffering multiple hits to the BMW throughout the busy opening laps in the ever-competitive ST class field. With damage to the side and rear of the car, Bell endured less than ideal handling conditions to move the No. 14 machine forward into the sixth position before handing the car over to co-driver BJ Zacharias.

Zacharias would run as high as 13th before the early retirement saw the team finish a disappointing 27th place.

“I had a great run into turn one and made up several spots on the start,” said Bell. “There was some beating and banging at the beginning which left the car pretty battered, but there was a lot of passing going on out there and we made it up to sixth. The early laps were fun but unfortunately he car is pretty damaged and some of the guys didn’t seem to be using their heads out there. But I’m really looking forward to the next one at Road America. I’ve tested there before, but the BMW will be different so I’m excited to see how it goes.”

Bell returns to GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge competition June 23-24 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

The Continental Tire 150 will broadcast on SPEED June 12 at 5:00 PM (ET).
