Insight Racing Takes Fourth on Lime Rock Park Grid

Lakeville, Conn. (27, May 2011) -Insight Racing driver Tyler McQuarrie posted a fast lap time of 1:00.158 seconds in qualifying at Lime Rock Park to take fourth on the grid with the No. 18 Insight Racing BMW 328i for Saturday’s Memorial Day Classic.

McQuarrie will open the 2.5-hour race at the controls before turning the machine over to co-driver Nico Rondet as the team looks to build on its positive result in the most recent round of GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge competition.

Following a pair of practice sessions on Friday, one final 15-minute session to set the field saw over 30 cars take to the track to set the starting order for Saturday’s ST-only race. The lap was good for an average speed of 91.558 mph around the fabled 1.5-mile circuit, and was the fastest time of the ten BMW machines entered.

“The car got a lot better from when we first went out–it’s been better every session,” said McQuarrie after the session. “The problem is that there just isn’t too much track time with this schedule. So we made a big change for qualifying, but we hadn’t had a chance to try it out before hand. Fortunately, it was a good change! Pace wise, it was better. I would like to have had a little bit more clear track to string some laps together. You would get almost one clear lap, then have to slow down for traffic. But we are close to pole with that time, and starting close to the front. It is a testament to the series that it is so close with the times. If we can just have a clean start and stay out of trouble, I think we should be good in the race tomorrow.”

The ST machines will take the green flag for the 2.5-hour race on Saturday at 10:30 AM (ET).
