Rum Bum Racing Makes a Visit to BMW NA Headquarters ahead of GRAND-AM Memorial Day Classic at Lime Rock Park

Quick pit stop on the way to Memorial Day Classic

26 May 2011–This weekend, GRAND-AM will stage round five of the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge championship at Lime Rock Park as the series makes its traditional visit to the Northwest Corner of Connecticut for the Memorial Day Weekend. The double-header Continental Tire race day will see the Street Tuner (ST) class machines do battle starting Saturday morning, with the Grand Sports (GS)-only 2.5 hour race set to take the green flag on Saturday afternoon.

But before the teams take to the track, there was time for a quick field trip as drivers and crew members from BMW-equipped teams including Rum Bum Racing paid a visit to the BMW of North America campus in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. The team personnel had the chance to meet the BMW Performance Parts team and tour the Accessory/Engineering and National workshop.

Following lunch and an opportunity to meet BMWNA employees, the guests were given a framed copy of the BWMNA ad featuring CTSCC teams (currently in this week’s Autoweek magazine – picture taken at VIR) from Larry Koch, BMWNA Motorsport Manager as well as a BMW Motorsport hat and shirt.

“This was a great opportunity to meet some of the folks who are so important to what we are doing every weekend in GRAND-AM,” said Rum Bum Racing driver Matt Plumb, who with co-driver Nick Longhi won the two final races of the 2010 season and the first race of 2011. “We are very exited to be representing BMW, and the M3 it is obviously an amazing platform to race with–that is clear by how many of our competitors choose the M3 to race with! I was very impressed with the people that we got to meet, and the passion that hey have for BMW is obvious. Hopefully we can give them something good to cheer about this weekend at Lime Rock!”

BMW won the 2010 GRAND-AM Manufacturers Championship in Grand Sport, and the Roundel has started the 2011 campaign with a strong championship defense. Having a BMW M3 finish either first or second in each of the opening four rounds of the season, the brand is tied for first in the Grand Sport championship. Heading to Lime Rock Park, which proudly utilizes the BMW Pace Car and has designated BMW as the “Official Vehicle” for the track, Rum Bum Racing is hoping to continue to show what the brand is capable of in some high-pressure situations.
